Woody biomass is a renewable resource available for not only energy (bio-fuel) but also chemical ingredients (bio-chemicals). However, efficient pretreatment process is essential for effective woody biomass utilization because of its complex composite structure. The objective of the present study is to develop a microwave irradiation system used for efficient and energy-cost-saving woody biomass pretreatment. We introduce our developed microwave irradiation systems which can pretreat a large amount of woody biomass continuously. Introducing the measured dielectric constant of solvents, we designed microwave irradiation sections with 3D electromagnetic simulator. We roughly estimated bioethanol production and energy balance under the latest microwave pretreatment condition. |
