Research on Characteristics of Arc-Shaped CRLH Waveguide for a Snow Melting System

(in English) Our research group is researching on a snow melting system with a microwave heating by using a composite right/left-handed (CRLH) waveguide. We are considering a snow melting system with low influences of a reflection wave by using a circuit-type waveguide. In previous our report, a straight-shaped CRLH waveguide with two-cylinder-pairs for a snow melting system has been investigated, but an arc-shaped one is not investigated. In this paper, some differences between a straight-shaped CRLH waveguide and an arc-shaped one are discussed. It is known that a cut-off frequency of a general waveguide depends on a width of a waveguide, and it is also known that both cut-off frequencies of a straight-shaped general waveguide and an arc-shaped one are the same each other. And, it is previously reported that a cut-off frequency in a left-handed mode of a straight-shaped CRLH waveguide also depends on a width of the waveguide. However, in our research, it is newly shown that an arc-shaped CRLH waveguide has a lower cut-off frequency of a left-handed mode than a straight-shaped one. The cut-off frequency of a straight-shaped waveguide is 2.26 GHz, and the cut-off frequency of an arc-shaped one is 2.41 GHz. It is expected that a cut-off frequency of an arc-shaped CRLH waveguide depends not only on a width of the waveguide but also on other structural parameters.
