Analysis of first-stage low-noise amplifier that minimises noise figure of receiver

(in English) It is known, both theoretically and empirically, that designing an LNA for its minimum noise figure (NF) is not the best if the design goal is the lowest NF of the entire receiver (RX). A better performance metric is the noise measure (NM). Although the NM-based approach gives a near-lowest RX NF, the lowest possible RX NF is realised when the LNA NM is slightly off its minimum NM. This paper theoretically studies the low-noise performance limit of an RX. The RX NF is shown to be minimised when the minimum new noise performance metric of the LNA is realised.
