Hybrid power amplifier for WiCoPT WPT system

(in English) WiCoPT system, which can transfer data and power simultaneously, employs modulated signals. Therefore, a transmitter of WiCoPT system requires a wide dynamic range, wide bandwidth, and high efficiency amplifier. The hybrid amplifier, which is a combination of a Doherty and outphasing amplifiers, is a strong candidate to achieve the above requirement. This paper analyzes the limiting points of the backoff region of a hybrid amplifier with outphasing operation on the lower output side and Doherty operation on the higher output side. The Doherty amplifiers were load-pull simulated, and the Chireix combiner was designed based on the impedance to maximize the backoff efficiency. The simulation indicates that the limiting point of the backoff efficiency of the Hybrid amplifier becomes the efficiency of the Doherty amplifier based on load-pull data.
