Improving Efficiency-Friendliness Tradeoffs of TCP Congestion Control Algorithm

(in English) It has been recognized that current TCP (mostly TCP-Reno) throughput deteriorates in emerging high-speed network environments with high bandwidth-delay product and non-negligible packet losses due to both link errors and congestion. To improve performance of TCP flows in such a network, a number of protocols, such as High Speed TCP, have been proposed. However, their lack of friendliness to legacy protocols has been obstacles for their wide deployment.
In this paper, we propose TCP Adaptive Reno, a scheme that improves throughput and friendliness to legacy protocols. The proposed protocol dynamically adjusts congestion window parameters based on congestion measurement. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol largely friendly to TCP-Reno in networks with various configurations, while it achieves much higher throughput than TCP Reno or even High Speed TCP.
