In this study, we analyze the following question; How multiple feedback loops enhance the entrainment ability in circadian clock systems ? For this purpose, we focus on the interlocked feedback model of Drosophila circadian clock which is one of the most elaborated models consistently explaining several important aspects known experimentally. For the single-cell entrainment ability in this system subject to weak light inputs, the whole dynamics can be reduced to a simple phase equation governing the system's circadian rhythms. By analyzing such phase equations for the wild-type and various (experimantally known) mutants, we find that the entrainment ability is significantly enhanced in the multiple feedback loops, as opposed to a single feedback loop in the mutant systems. |
