Higher-order correlation analysis of pitch fluctuations in normal vowels by the method of surrogate data -- Towards natural speech synthesis --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It has been known that fluctuations observed in
fundamental frequencies (FF) of
normal phonation of sustained vowels are indispensable
for human speech to be perceived as a natural sound.
In order to synthesize a speech that well preserves
the original vocal quality, it is necessary to study statistical properties of the FF fluctuations. Although preservation of second order correlation function of the original FF fluctuations has been reported to be important, significance of higher order correlation functions is still unclear. We carries out a higher-order correlation analysis of the FF fluctuations based on the method of surrogate data and report significance of the higher order correlation for a natural synthesis of human speech.
