Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this study we have established an effective technique for dosimetric analyses of base-station antennas in an underground environment. The technique combined the ray-tracing method and the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method for the SAR calculation in human bodies. The ray-tracing method was applied to evaluating the incident fields to the exposed subject in a three-dimensional space, while the FDTD method was used to calculate the detailed SAR distributions in the human body. A scenario under an underground passage with the installation of a top loaded monopole antenna was analyzed to highlight the effectiveness of the hybrid technique together with the difference in SAR distributions from the uniform plane-wave exposure. The results showed lower whole-body averaged and peak SARs in comparison with a uniform plane-wave exposure with the same intensity of spatially averaged electric field. As for the SAR level due to the present base-station antenna, it should be much lower than the basic safety guidelines in view of the actual outputs of base-station antennas being installed in underground or indoor environments.
