An Efficient FEC Method Using Packet-level Convolution
Jun Takahashi, Hideki Tode, Koso Murakami (Osaka Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) For the efficient distribution services on the Internet,
suppressing the influence of packet loss is one of the important issues.
As a solution of this problem, Forward Error Correction (FEC) based on Reed-Solomon codes is usually used.
However, more efficient method is required because burst packet droppings significantly degrade the data reconstruction capability.
In this paper, we propose the data recovery method that generates redundant data with the combination of Reed-Solomon codes and convolution of neighboring blocks.
We implement proposal method into the network bridge and confirm its
efficiency from the viewpoint of data reconstruction performance from burst packet losses.
