Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Pulse oscillatory motions of a harmonically mode-locked fiber ring laser are numerically studied. We employ a simulation model incorporating an optical variable delay in the laser cavity. Varying the optical delay, we find that the generated optical field significantly changes according both to the bandwidth of the wavelength selecting filter and to the unsaturated gain of the amplifying section. In the case of a narrow filter bandwidth and a small unsaturated gain, the exact syncronization between the modulation signal and the optical field can result in pulse drop-outs. Slight detuning in this case will limit the energy of developing pulses and can stabilize the pulse train as a whole. On the other hand, the exact synchronization is necessary for a wide filter bandwidth: bacause of the fiber nonlinearity, the lack of the synchronization can lead to an unstable motion of the pulses. In the case of a narrow filter bandwidth, the increase in the unsaturated fain excludes the pulse drop-outs and enlarges the synchronization range of the delay. On the contrary, in the case of a wide filter bandwidth, the gain increase results in narrowing the syncronization range because of the increase in the nonlinearity.
