We have proposed and demonstrated the digitally tunable laser consisiting of the ladder filter and the ring resonator. The widely tunable ladder filter selects one channel from the periodic channels of the ring resonator. Thus, device performance is depend on the properties of the ladder filter. We, therefore, introduced chirping in the ladder filter and fabricated the tunable laser incorporating the chirped ladder filter. The device exhibited the lasing mode stability and the sidemode suppression ratio of more than 40 dB. The switching time for all wavelength channel was less than 8 nsec. |
