An A/D converter using a diffractive-optics element: a design method and computer simulation

(in English) A baisc setup of an A/D converter with a diffractive-optics element is given, a design method for the element is introduced, and some results of computer simulation are shown.
The converter is composed of three main parts: a tunable laser that converts an analog input voltage into the output wavelength, a diffraction grating whose first-order light propagates in a direction determined by the wavelength, and a diffractive-optics element that produces a spot pattern on a diffraction plane.
An iterative angular-spectrum algorithm is employed the element, the algorithm which is an optimization method based on the scalar diffraction theory.
Computer simulations evaluate the performance of a designed element and of an element with repartition and quantization.
