On the Burst Transmission Delay of FEC-Based Burst Generation for Optical Burst Switching Networks

(in English) In this paper, we evaluate the burst transmission delay for FEC-based burst generation methods in optical burst switching (OBS). As the FEC-based burst generation methods, we consider Out-of-Burst Generation (OBG), in which a new burst is generated from redundant data, and In-Burst Generation (IBG), in which each burst is generated from original data and redundant data. In both methods, the FEC decoding process is performed only when burst losses are recovered. Therefore, the mean burst transmission delay does not increase so much even if the FEC decoding time is large. In numerical examples, we investigate the mean burst transmission delay for the two methods and show the required number of FEC processors and the required FEC processing speed.
