A performance gain in multimedia processing is demanded by the spread of mobile telephone or digital cameras. MTX (MaTriX processing engine) developed by Renesas Co., Ltd., is a kind of SIMD (Single InstructionMultiple Data) type parallel programable device of which carried many bit-serial ALUs. Multimedia data handling such as sound processing or image processing is effective for MTX by having a high parallelism. In this paper, we evaluate MTX by using a part of the processing of the MP3 decoder and the JPEG2000 encoder. When the operation frequency of MTX is 200MHz , it had an equivalent or more performance of these, comparedwith Intel Pentium4 3.4GHz. Further , if MTX has the same frequency of Pentium4, at least 7 time improvement is claimed for MTX over Pentium4 for each processing. |
