To estimate the SAR (Specific Absorption Ratio) of the mobile communication device above 3GHz, an alternative method for calibrating the SAR probe is required in place of the conventional calibration using the waveguide system and has been developed by the authors. In our calibration, a reference antenna whose gain is calibrated is immersed in the liquid, and then the electric field intensity radiated from the antenna is related to the output voltage of the SAR probe on the basis of the Friis transmission equation. However, the electric field is significantly attenuated in the liquid and it is difficult to calibrate the antenna gain in the far-field region, where the Friis transmission equation is valid. To overcome the difficulty, we try to use the modified Friis transmission equation in the near-field region, where one antenna can receive the signal from the other antenna in the liquid. In this paper, we show some results of estimating the antenna gain from the near-field data and check the validity of the modified Friis transmission equation. |
