Optical IP-VPN using Fast Wavelength Tunable Laser Diode

(in English) A multilayer network architecture has been proposed in which the network usually acts as a Multi-Protocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network (MPLS-VPN) and the network establishes optical bypass cut-through paths if the network traffic becomes heavy. When a provider edge node was connected to eight VPN users and all traffic concentrated to an output port of the network side, the peak packet delay variation could be restricted within 50msec. In this case, it has been clarified that the optical source wavelength tuning time should be less than 1msec. Actually, the wavelength tunable light source has been fabricated for our feasibility study. 0.2msec wavelength tuning speed with 35nm tuning range and 130MHz stability after the optical frequency tuning were demonstrated.
