[Invited Talk] Studies on Efficient Spectrum Use in Space Domain for Radio Resource Enhancement

(in English) This paper presents “Research and Development of Efficient Spectrum Use in Space Domain” which is one of the sponsored projects by Ministry of Internal Affaires and Communications entitled “Research and Development for Radio Resource Enhancement: Research and Development of Fundamental Technologies for Advanced Spectrum Sharing”. Frequency spectrum below 6GHz, which is suitable for mobile radio systems, is used very densely by a lot of radio systems, cellar telephones for example, and the spectrum resource become scarce. The purpose of this research is to make the most of the radio spectrum and to obtain frequency bands that are in great demand for mobile communication systems. There are two approaches toward it: one is “System-to-system SDM (Space Division Multiplexing) technologies” and the other is MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technologies. The former improves spectrum efficiency in a unit area while the latter raises transmission capacity in a unit frequency band. Two sub-themes are set for these approaches: A) “SDM application technologies for small mobile terminals” for the former and B) “Multi-user MIMO technologies” for the latter.
