Thin film earphone using polyurea piezoelectric transducer

(in English) Open-type headphone and tube earphone, that have few effects
on the acoustic characteristics in the ear canal, have been studied in the field of
sound localization systems. The tube earphone consists of dynamic earphone and silicon
tube, whose inner diameter is 0.7 mm. It is inserted into the ear canal so that we can
hear the both of virtual sound and ambient sound. In this report, we suggest a thin
film earphone using polyurea piezoelectric film. It enables us to hear the both sound
more efficiently without obstructing the sound characteristics in the ear canal.
Polyurea has useful characteristics such as workability, thermal shock properties,
and flexibility. First, the fabrication method of the thin film earphone using polyurea
film is discussed. Second, the frequency responses and the vibrational distribution
of the film earphone are measured. The effect on the sound characteristics in the ear canal
are also measured. The results show the film earphone operates in the frequency between 1 kHz and 20 kHz.
