A simple howling canceler based on interaural level difference

Howling cancelation is an important issue in order to realize eithermonaural or binaural hearing assistant systems including hearing aids. Although binaural hearing assisting systems have become popular, most of them use two independent monaural howling cancelation system without utilizing the advantage of binaural processing. This paper proposed a simple howling cancelation method for binaural hearing assistant system using interaural level difference. Performance on howling margin evaluation is shown for the proposed howling canceler. Howling margin of binaural processing with howling canceler is also examined. The maximum howling margin was 5.5 dB in the former. The result in the latter case was 8.5 dB. |
