Performance verification technique of a submillimeter-wave antenna by the near-field measurement at 0.64 THz

(in English) This paper describes a perfomance verification technique of the offset Cassegrain antenna of the Superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (JEM/SMILES) for the Japanese Experiment Module on the International Space Station, and the detail of the submillimeter-wave near-field antenna measurement system was presented.
An optics simulator with a corrugated feed horn for the antenna measurements which simulated beam profile of HE11 fandamental mode of corrugated circular waveguide by the design technique of an image horn was manufactured.
In the design of the corrugated feed horn of the optics simulator, the relation between the depth and the width of the corrugation was taken into account considering restrictions in the manufacturing process.
As a result of the performance evaluation, the measured far-field characteristics of the corrugated feed horn was found to be in good agreement with theoretically calculations, and it was found that the beam profile of the corrugated circular waveguide could be simulated by this optics simulator.
