Fiber fuse running through a single-mode silica glass fiber pumped by 1480 nm light were observed in situ with an interval of few micro seconds. These images were compared with the optical micrographs of generated damage. A statistical analysis of the micrographs showing the front region of the damage reveals a periodic void formation process. A transient propagation mode without void formation was observed during fiber fuse initiation and self-termination. |
