An optical parallel transceiver with polymeric three dimensional waveguide

(in English) As a connection part between optical elements and fiber, Fujitsu Component Limited has developed a three dimensional waveguide fabricated by high precision injection molding and applied it to a optical transceiver for conversion of copper to fiber and vice versa in 4 channel, bi-directional parallel link. The 3-D waveguide is made of polymer, and optically connects VCSELs/PIN PDs and fibers which are mounted at right angles to each other. It is composed of a base form with rectangular grooves filled with core material covered by overclads and microlens arrays that connect fibers to waveguides, and VCSELs/PIN PDs to waveguides, which contributed to realizing compact size, lower cost part. The 3-D waveguide technology is applicable to a wide range of optical interconnections and circuitry such as pitch/height conversion, channel number expansion, 3-D splitting and wavelength multiplexing. The optical transceiver with optical interface of 12-flber MPO connector is mounted on the cable plug that is the industry standard MDI connector for high speed copper I/F specified in 10GBASE-CX4, 4X-InfiniBand and 10G Fibre Channel standards. This product is hot-pluggable to the MDI port and capable of making data traffic over 200m multimode fiber with 850nm wavelength at 3.125Gbps.
