This paper proposes a method for tracking a bronchoscope using a positional sensor without fiducial markers. In most of tracking methods using positional sensor, registration is performed based on some fiducial markers attached on a patient's body. In these methods, it is necessary to measure fiducial markers on both real patient's body and reference images. The method proposed in this paper estimates the transformation matrix between real patient's body and the CT image taken prior to bronchoscope examination by matching the outputs of the positional sensor and bronchi regions extracted from the CT image. We applied the proposed method to a rubber bronchial model. Experimental results showed that the registration error of bronchial branches was about 5.6 mm, and the proposed method could track bronchoscope camera in real time. |
