In this paper, two novel three-pole microstrip bandpass filters (BPFs) with sharp attenuations and wide stopbands are developed through a combined use of composite resonators and stepped impedance resonators (SIRs). By using a full-wave electromagnetic simulator, the filters are designed with a midband frequency of 1.0 GHz and a fractional bandwidth of 6%. The measured frequency responses of the filters agree well with the simulated results, and show a transmission zero at about 0.9GHz and 1.1GHz, respectively. The transition from the passband to the stopband is thereby sharp and deep. Moreover, up to approximately 3.71f0 or 5.2f0, the stopband attenuations of the two filters are larger than 20dB. In the design of the second BPF, the resonators and admittance inverters of the filter are miniaturized. As a result, the area occupied by the second filter is deduced to about one half that of the first filter. |
