Optical Switching Module with Regeneration Function for GE-OSAN

(in English) We previously proposed Gigabit Ethernet Optical Switched Network (GE-OSAN) Architecture to enhance the span and security of optical access networks, and then clarified a basic configuration of Optical Switching Module (OSM); OSM is a key network element in GE-OSAN. This paper proposes OSM with a regeneration function so that GE-OSAN can be used more widely used in optical access networks. We clarify this OSM can achieve longer reach of GE-OSAN, and introduce its new network application. We also show it enable us to easily realize the precise value of the delay required for the downstream switching and to obtain by itself the round trip delay between OSM and ONU required for the upstream switching.
