[Tutorial Lecture] The Latest Technology Trend on Digital Appliances-connected Home Networks

(in English) This article describes the latest trend and future perspective on home networks to which digital appliances are interconnected. Wireless LAN has already been dominant as a home network for freeing people from wires, and sensor networks are expected to be connected to wireless LAN through a home gateway for monitoring and controlling digital appliances from outdoor mobile phones and PCs. The trend and perspective are overviewed regarding both indoor home networks and interconnection between such home networks and outdoor terminals based on research and survey. The survey on the recent trend is based on the research tour in Europe conducted by a technical committee led by the author in Interoperability Technology Association for Information Processing (INTAP), Japan.
