In order to evaluate the actual performance of the short-range UWB high-speed transmission systems under Line-of-Sight condition, the effects of human body placed in the vicinity of small UWB antennas should be considerd as well as the reflections from far-field scatterers. However, it is difficult to solve the large-scale electromagnetic problems such as transmitter/receiver subsystem including the whole human body therefore various stochastic UWB channel models have been used generally. Though, the human body effects characterized by the near-field deterministic components have not been considered in detail in those conventional models.
In this paper, a new UWB-MIMO transmission model including the effects of
human body reflection in addition to the conventional two-path model is presented. There are two key issues to be examined in terms of the variation of the eigenvalue distribution of UWB-MIMO channel matrix caused by human body: 1) average power of first eigenvalue determined by the human hand, 2) stochastic characteristics of the reflected waves from human torso. |
