A Study on the Most Suitable Server Selection by Remote Observation

(in English) This paper proposes to use both the network delay between user and server and the pilot file download time as index for optimal server selection among several servers with same files, where the pilot file is a file whose size is rather small and the download is terminated immediately. From the server's side, load distributions are executed among several servers against increasing server load. From the user's side it is desirable to actively select a server whose reaction time is as short as possible. But there is few means to know the actual server and network load situation. So this paper proposes the use of pilot file download time as an index to know the above situation. Experiment by use of world-wide servers shows the effectiveness of the proposed index.
