Probabilistic Descent Applied to Character Recognition

This report describes the application of MCE/GPD in the character recognition field. Firstly, as conventional methods, LVQ, LSM and ALSM are explained. LVQ is a technique which has been used in the OCR field. LSM and ALSM are techniques which have been adopted as a method to create reference vectors used in character recognition systems. Successively, DFE is introduced as a learning system which is organized by MCE/GPD for a feature extraction unit. Finally, LSM and ALSM are examined by MCE/GPD approach. As for LSM, it can be interpreted by MCE/GPD without the division by norm of reference vector. As for ALSM, it is understood that the interpretation of ALSM by MCE/GPD is difficult. |
