Improving TCP Throughput by Splitting Hops over Ad-Hoc Networks

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Wireless technology has been developed and wireless terminal which is high performance, small, and lightweight has become popular.
Thus, the opportunity of using wireless communications has been increased.
Especially,ad-hoc networks which doesn't need the access point like wireless LAN has become into the spotlight.
If the terminal cannot communicate directly on ad-hoc networks, the terminal performs multi-hop wireless communication.
However, there are several problems that TCP throughput decreases on ad-hoc networks.
Several methods which improve TCP throughput on ad-hoc networks have been proposed in recent years.
However, they don't consider a problem that the TCP throughput decreases rapidly as the number of hops increases.
In this study,we propose the method which splits the number of hops.
Specifically, the method stores packets in buffer and interrupts data transmission temporarily at the intermediate terminal.
Next,we evaluated the proposal method by ns2.
As a result,we found that throughput improves comparing with the case of traditional multi-hop communication and proxy.
