. Detection of heavy metal ions is important in circumstance control in soil or in medical check. We examined anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) for high sensitive detection of metal ions in saliva so far, and high sensitivity of ppb was achieved, however, selectivity of metal ion species was insufficient, in this case coexisting metal ions affect potential values where the stripping occurs. Biological ion channels are constructed of membrane proteins which have a hole with electrical affinity and size-controlled pore. The electrostatic affinity with ions is realized by a pore surrounded by carbonyl groups. Selectivity by a pore size is essential for a molecular recognition with nano-scale structures (nanospace). Our strategy on development of chemical sensors is utilization of low-dimensional nano-scale structures with electrical conductivity illustrated in Fig.1. Generally molecular receptors are designed through chemical structure of the molecule, on the other hand, receptor properties can be designed by means of structure of molecular aggregation in nano scale. The ion channel can be realized by nanopore depicted in Fig.1, where size- controllable pores are fabricated on the SAMs. Uptake of metal ions can be detected by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), where the ions are taken into the pore and alter the membrane impedance. |
