Accurate Average BER Bound using Two-Dimensional Pairwise Error Probability Considering Spatial Correlation in MIMO Channels

(in English) For an accurate BER analysis over spatially correlated MIMO channels, this report derives average BER bounds by using two-dimensional (2D) pairwise error probability (PEP), and evaluates their accuracy. A union bound for average BER over the spatially correlated MIMO channels has already been obtained. However, the union bound is not tight at low average $E_b/N_0$ because the decision error probability of transmitted signal sequence is approximated as codeword one-dimensional (1D) PEP. Union bounds for average BER using codeword 2D-PEP or symbol 2D-PEP are more accurate than the one using 1D-PEP. The codeword 2D-PEP can be applied to all space-time codes for MIMO. On the other hand, the application of the 2D-PEP is limited to the orthogonal code such as OSTBC because it requires the MIMO channel to be decomposed into orthogonal channels by a space-time code and so on. We theoretically derive the above three average BER bounds, clarifies their relation, and evaluates their accuracy by computer simulations.
