Multi-and-Single-User Detection Switching Control in MIMO-OFDM Co-Channel Interference Enviroments

(in English) To cope with co-channel interference in an uplink of a MIMO-OFDM mobile radio system, this report investigates control algorithms to switch between multi- and single-user detection using array combining (AC). The combination of AC and single-user maximum likelihood detection (MLD), which is referred to as SU-AC-MLD, suffers from BER degradation when a difference in average angle of arrival (AOA) between desired and interfering signals is small. To solve such a problem, this report proposes a combination of AC and multi-user MLD, which is referred to as MU-AC-MLD. MU-AC-MLD can detect interfering signals which AC is unable to suppress. Under a noisy channel condition, however, MU-AC-MLD is likely to be inferior to SU-AC-MLD in BER performance because the former has more parameters to be estimated. For switching between SU-AC-MLD and MU-AC-MLD, this report also proposes two control algorithms that calculate mean squared errors during preamble symbols as their criterion. Computer simulations under an interference-limited condition demonstrate that the proposed control algorithms can properly select one detector that is superior in BER performance to the other.
