Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Multi-functional Transport Satellite 2, known as MTSAT-2, which has aeronautical mission and weather
observation mission was successfully launched in February 2006, and named as “HIMAWARI 7”. This paper describes
configurations and performances of the aeronautical mission antennas on this MTSAT-2. The aeronautical mission of
MTSAT-2 has four kinds of antennas such that L-band global beam (L-GLOBAL) and L-band spot beam (L-SPOT)
communicate to aircrafts, and Ku-band spot beam (Ku-SPOT) and Ka-band spot beam (Ka -SPOT) communicate ground earth
stations. L-GLOBAL antenna is composed of shaped reflector which radiated isoflux power density on the earth, and L-Spot
antenna is composed of offset parabolic reflector with six multibeam excited by small sized helices. Stage of the art of light
weight membrane technology has been applied for both L-band reflectors by using triaxis woven fabric CFRP. Ku-SPOT and
Ka-SPOT are composed of dual gridded reflectors with four or three multibeams, respectively. These antennas have features
as for satellite antennas on which unique characteristics. Good correlations between design and measurement of radiation
patterns have been obtained.
