Automation of Kinematic Analysis of Artificial Knee Implant from 2D X-ray Fluoroscopic Images

2D/3D registration technique for 3D kinematic analysis, which uses 2D X-ray fluoroscopic images and 3D CAD model, needed labor intensive and time-consuming manual operations to set initial pose of 3D model. We proposed automatic method to determine the initial pose using interpolation of multilevel B-spline. In previous method, however, 3D poses are estimated unstably in some images. In this study, we introduce 2D/3D registration, which is restricted to 3 DOF in image plane, to improve robustness for initial pose. As a result of experiments using actual fluoroscopic images, we showed stable result were given in 97.5\% and 86.3\% images for femoral and tibial components respectively. |
