We propose a novel algorithm to improve accuracy in estimation and tracking of arterial wall displacement in carotid ultrasonography. The proposed approach is based on both the ultrasonic Doppler and correlation methods. It employs an adaptive combination of the results by these methods. We propose a criterion that evaluates the accuracies of displacement estimation by these two methods. We can improve the accuracy of tracking by selecting or weighting the results of them. The experimental results with clinical subjects show that the performance of the proposed method is empirically superior to the conventional methods. |
