Carbon Nanotubes Deposition by Optical Tweezers and Optical Reflectometry for its In-situ Monitoring

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) posses useful features for optical devices. However, there is a large problem in handling CNTs. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate area selective deposition of CNTs onto core region of fiber end facet by optical tweezers. We successfully deposited CNTs onto only a core region of a fiber end by injecting a light into a CNT dispersed solution through a perpendicularly cleaved fiber end. For precise control of uniformity and thickness of CNT-layer, we employed optical reflectometry to monitor the layer condition. CNT deposition start timing and a process where CNT layer became more uniform were observed by optical reflectometry during CNT deposition. These techniques will enhance an efficiency of CNT use and will decrease a fabrication cost of CNT optical devices. |
