Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We formulate the optical confinement-based loss in terms of cladding losses, fiber structural parameters, and operation wavelength λ0 in a Bragg fiber. We present numerical results on the optical loss, contour loss curve, and fiber loss spectrum in the TE01 mode transmission. One can express the cladding lower index, for which the fiber loss is minimized, in terms of other indices and cladding losses. The optimized fiber loss is inversely proportional to (rc/λ0)3 for sufficiently large normalized core radius rc/λ0. A fiber loss of the order of 0.01-0.1dB/km can be obtained using cladding material of 10 dB/km in loss, if fiber structural parameters are appropriately designed.
