ARTMAP with Explicit and Implicit Weights

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) ARTMAP is a supervised learning system that consists of the adaptive resonance theory neural networks (ART). Since ARTMAP was devised as a system that can solve the Stability-Plasticity Dilemma, a variety of learning methods have been proposed. Although the average learning method (AL) is implemented by modifying the original learning method (FCSR) slightly, it has been reported that AL can solve the pattern recognition problem in noisy environment more effectively than FCSR. However, we have confirmed that AL is less suitable for the region classification problem than FCSR. This fact means that AL has certain problems that do not exit in FCSR. In this report, we propose a novel learning method for ARTMAP with both explicit and implicit weights to overcome the problems in AL.
