Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Terahertz (THz)-wave generation using difference-frequency mixing in an organic 4-N, N-dimethylamino -4’-N’-methyl-stilbazolium p-toluenesulfonate (DAST) crystal was investigated experimentally. We developed a dual-wavelength optical parametric oscillator with two KTiOPO4 crystals as the input light source. Widely tunable THz waves ranging from 2 to 20 THz were generated from DAST crystals with 0.5 mm thickness. THz output energies of 460 nJ (peak power of 38 W) at 11.3 THz were obtained. Using the tunable THz-wave source and a pyroelectric detector operating at room temperature, we developed a tunable THz spectroscopy system.
