Kinematic and kinetic comparison of baseball pitching between youth and adulthood pitchers

(in English) The pitchers of both youth and adulthood have the high risk of sustaining the injury on their shoulder and/or the elbow. In general, we think that the injury for youth pitchers results from the overuse of their arm with the undeveloped body. Many clinical reports have been published for youth pitcher's injury, however, there are few reports that measured the youth pitcher's motion quantitatively. The pitching motions of youth pitchers were investigated based on the experience and the sense of the coaches and doctors. The quantitative investigation of the youth pitching motion is required. The purpose of this study is to evaluate youth and adulthood pitching motion, and to compare both of them. The pitching motions of 45 youth and 22 adulthood pitchers were measured, and we estimated kinetic and kinematic parameters of them. The results showed that the upper body of youth pitchers tended more forward tilted than adulthood’s one, and the normalized joint moment of youth pitchers were almost equal to the adult. In order to reduce the risk of throwing injuries, the following two points are important for youth pitchers; 1) training the lower extremity, 2 ) limitation of the maximum number of pitches.
