Efficiency Issues in End-to-End Available Bandwidth Measurement Techniques

(in English) Many end-to-end available bandwidth measurement techniques have been proposed to the date. They are generally active probing based. However, state-of-art measurement techniques adopt fairly simple approaches to adjust the probing rates within one measurement. These approaches include linear, exponential and binary search. A more complex rate adjustment could potentially be able to improve efficiency. In addition, whether to use trains with constant probing rates of each packet, or streams where the probing rates of packets are varying can also affect the efficiency of measurement. We stress these issues in this paper and introduce a scheme which can be a solution to improve measurement efficiency and consequently accuracy.
