Lossless Coding of Color Video Signals Based on Motion Compensation and Inter-Color

This paper describes an efficient lossless video coding scheme of color video signals provided in YUV 4:2:0 format. At each frame, a luminance (Y) signal is first encoded by using a block-adaptive 3D prediction method which exploits both spatial and temporal correlations. On the other hand, the enhanced 3D prediction method which allows making use of inter-color correlations is applied to the remaining chrominance (U, V) signals. Moreover, the motion compensated bi-prediction technique is introduced into both kinds of the 3D prediction methods. Simulation results indicate that coding rates of the proposed scheme are 16--21 \% lower than those of the H.264-based lossless coding scheme. |
