Effects of the baffle height on radiation power in a two-dimensional waveguide-slot array antenna

(in English) A co-phase feed or alternating phase feed slotted waveguide array with baffles is analyzed by the spectral domain approach. The total radiation power in the slot array changes with a period of an half of wavelength approximately. The solution to the spectral domain approach is compared with the approximated solution by connecting the scattering matrix of each slot assuming the uniform excitation for the confirmation of the approach and the understanding of this phenomenon. When we derive the scattering matrix of the slot set in the approximated method, we divide into two parts; the slots and the baffle aperture. A set of two slots is extracted by replacing the external region by a waveguide with two pairs of periodic boundary walls. The scattering matrix for the slots is obtained by the method of moments (MoM). The other matrix for the baffle aperture is derived by solving a two-dimensional stepped structure for incidence of a TEM wave by the mode matching method. The approximated solutions give the same tendency of the radiation power on the baffle height as well as the spectral domain solutions, so that we find the standing wave of the TEM mode between the slots and the edge of the baffles affects the change of the radiation power dominantly.
