Electrical Volume of Small Antenna -- Current Distribution and Equivalent Sphere Radius --
Hiroyuki Arai (Yokohama Natl. Univ.) AP2007-9
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report proposes an equivalent radius of Chu’s sphere by multiplying the maximum current strength normalized by feed point current with the radius of sphere surrounding the antenna. 1W power input method is appropriate to examine the small antenna rather than 1V excitation, which are also presented in this report. The Chu’s sphere is extended to its applicable electrical size more than the one-tenth wavelength for the evaluation of small antennas.
The electrically occupied volume for the antenna working space is defined by this equivalent sphere radius, and the antenna characteristics are examined by introducing unloaded Q and directivity of tested antennas. The parameter optimization for the same shaped antenna is also discussed by using the equivalent radius. For examples, H-shaped and inverted F-shaped antennas are examined for a reference of half wavelength dipole.
