A 5 GHz High-Temperature Superconducting reaction-type transmitting filter (HTS-RTF) to suppress adjacent channel noise is newly proposed. Since reaction-type resonators do not resonate with high-power fundamental signals, an HTS-RTF enables both high-power handling capability and sharp cutoff characteristics compared to existing planar-type HTS transmitting filters. For practical applications in a 5 GHz band, however, it is required for resonators to achieve high-unloaded Q-factors and low radiations as well as low surface current densities in passband. Firstly, novel split open-ring resonators, which reduce maximum current densities while maintaining high-unloaded Q-factors, are proposed. The measured resonator shows unloaded Q-factor of 68,000 at 5 GHz and third intermodulation-distortion (IMD3) of –82 dBc at 30 dBm input power. Secondly, to investigate the feasibility of an HTS-RTF, a 5 GHz three-pole HTS-RTF with a fractional bandwidth of 0.03 % is designed. |
