Implementation and Evaluation of Initial Inter-AP Network Establishment in Mesh Networks

(in English) When access points (APs) are put one by one at the early stage of mesh network establishment, it is necessary to set one interface to common SSID and a common channel to form an initial network. By using this initial network, the quality and the interference between links are measured, and an efficient channel allocation based on measurement becomes possible. Deciding the channel beforehand is undesirable because there is a possibility that a specific channel cannot be used due to the interference. In this paper, we propose the method to establish the initial network autonomously. In this method, each AP scans channel, and each AP sets the discovered channel to its own interface. We implemented the programs that performed the operation of parents AP and child AP, in compact size PC and confirmed the right operation through experiments using 12 nodes testbed in Niigata University. As a result, we confirmed that all child APs appeared on the routing table in the parents AP and communication between APs become possible.
