Study of Media Access Control Protocol for ad hoc network based on estimated packet error rate

(in English) In wireless communication environments, the fading, which is the dynamic fluctuation of the signal intensity, occurs due to the movement of terminals. The fading speed generally depends on the terminal speed. Therefore, it is known that the worse channel condition would continue relatively long when the terminal is static or moves very slow. A media access control method which controls transmission timing based on the wireless channel conditions has been proposed. However, its adequate control threshold depends on the packet size and protocol. This paper proposes a new transmission timing control method based on the estimated packet error rate by extending the RTS/CTS mechanisms of IEEE 802.11. From the simulation results, the proposed method can decrease the unnecessary route discovery and improve the throughput performance by selecting the similar threshold value.
