In the lung lobe division from 3D chest CT images, methods based on the surface fitting technique or distribution features of blood vessels have been reported so far.
However, there are some problems that segmentation accuracy of lung lobes heavily depends on accuracy of the pulmonary fissure extraction and that the methods cannot cope with cases of {\it incomplete fissure}.
This paper proposes a novel method for dividing a lung region into lung lobes based on a figure decomposition algorithm. First, the proposed method extracts pulmonary fissures by enhancing them analyzing local intensity structures. Then, constrictions are generated by subtracting the extracted fissure regions from a lung region. Lung lobe regions are segmented by a figure decomposition algorithm based on the constrictions. This approach enables to segment lobe regions accurately even if over-extraction regions of pulmonary fissures exist. As the results of experiments for artificial figures mimicking the lung and fourteen cases of 3D chest CT images, the proposed method could segment lung lobe regions more accurate than a previous method. |
