We have studied a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) Free Space Optics system using 1310/1550 nm wavelength to realize a hybrid optical-fiber/ FSO (Free Space Optics) networks. One of its applications is wireless transmission through windowpanes for a subscriber’s drop to construct a seamless FTTH (Fiber To The Home) network. Only a pair of collimator lenses is installed at the borders of the optical fiber part and the optical wireless part for the bilateral communication system after adjusting the optical axes of the collimators. The proposed system does not require power supply because no electric devices are equipped including laser diodes and photodiodes. We have prepared a Free Space Optics system and inserted it between two optical connectors of single-mode optical fibers. A collimator lens is attached to each optical connector, and faces to the opposite lens each other. We have constructed a prototype of the automatic collimator adjuster, and conducted some experiments to evaluate the transmission properties such as the transmission loss and the reflection loss. We newly designed collimators to improve the transmission properties, and carried out fundamental experiments to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed system. |
